Rain, rain, go away

Rain, rain, go away. Come again on some weekday.

While usually I don't mind the rain so much (hey, it's not snow), I have to say that it managed to ruin a few plans I had for this weekend, including a visit to the site. With all the construction, bricking, roofing, and such happening so fast these past few weeks, I'd hoped to get back out for another look. However, having tried to take photos in the rain previously, I had no intention of making the drive just for a few quick snaps.

Although I'm planning on getting away next weekend, I still hope to make a trip out to see what else has been done. Even if I don't make it out, I'll dig up a photo of something cool related to the house (e.g., some inside shots, the infamous angled doorway) so you have something new to look at.

Second floor: bedrooms and baths

What a difference a week makes.

My home circa August 21, 2004

Each week this all gets a little more insane for me. I've been living with the “I'll be moving soon” philosophy for awhile now. What I have to realize is that the “soon” that I keep talking about is coming approaching very quickly!

As for the street, both of my neighbours-to-be have brick on their walls and shingles on their roof. In fact, things are moving very quickly up-and-down the street. Because of this, it's becoming more and more interesting each visit; I've started trying to figure out the layouts of the neighbouring homes now.

The biggest shock for me this weekend was on the second floor. The entrance to (what will be) my computer room was angled. “I don't have any angled walls?!”, I exclaimed. I racked my brain for one... trying to go over the floor plan in my head, just in case I'd got turned around in all the excitement. Minutes later, I called my mom; I had her check the plans. Sure enough, that doorway is supposed to be on a 45 degree angle. So, today's lesson for everyone is: before you scare yourself into thinking that the builder has decided to change your second floor, always have the floor plan with you when visiting the site.

First floor: foyer, great room, and kitchen

Of all the days that I had to be in a hurry, this past Saturday was one of them. My usual detailed investigation of the house, dirt, neighbouring residences, etc., was reduced to little more than a drive-by (photographic) shooting.

But look what I found: my first floor!

My home circa August 14, 2004

Without the time to really have a look at everything, I don't know what else to say really. I'm super-excited to see something standing above ground level. It somehow makes everything a little more real. My neighbours have roofs up and real doors and windows already installed. Other homes on the street have also begun construction now.

At the moment, I have nothing planned for next weekend/Sunday, so I'm going to do my best to keep it open for a more in-depth visit. Sunday's seem to be a much better day; less likely to find people working at the site (as they were this past weekend). With things moving along again, I'll have a hard time not visiting every week! Good for me/you (the reader), but not as much fun for my car. Then again, it may as well get used to the drive.

Monday already?

Okay, last week I posted on a Monday because it was a long weekend for me, so that's just when I got to see my place. This week? Well, it apparently just slipped my mind... the posting a new blog entry that is. I intentionally didn't make the trek this past weekend on account of my “fire break theory” (read the comment I posted against my previous entry). So, that said, I didn't go this past weekend... no new photos to show you -- next weekend for sure (unless I make it out there Thursday night which is always a possibility).

Have a good week everyone. Talk to you again next Sunday!

I feel cheated!

Hey... what gives here, eh? Have a look for yourself (below) -- do you see what I'm talking about?

My home circa July 31, 2004

As I said a few weeks back, they (the builders) seem to be building the walls from the top of the street down (unlike the foundations which they poured from the bottom up). So, my neighbour to the LEFT has his walls up... and my neighbour to the RIGHT has his walls up... so what gives? They skipped me!

My best guess is that it has to do with my stairs. You see, part of the reason that I chose my layout was because the stairs are in the middle of my home, thus creating an artifical barrier between my living and dining rooms. In today's world of “open concept” design, it is hard (nay, impossible) to find a floorplan that includes walls between rooms. That said, my stairs are the type that go “down a few steps, landing, down a few more”, so maybe they're trying to construct the other homes first... the ones with the easy staircases.

Regardless, I had a good time getting out there again on what turned out to be a nice afternoon. Maybe next week I'll have walls. Here's hoping (again)!
